Children’s Tutoring Initiative is a K-4^th grade literacy tutoring program focused on Columbus City Elementary Schools. Beginning in October and running through April, tutors work one-on-one with a student who needs a little help, many principals refer to these students as “bubble kids” (mine has been one of these!). Charleys Kids Foundation works to connect volunteer tutors to partner elementary schools to help children improve reading.

Tutors are asked to volunteer 1 hour per week and work with students for 30 minutes. Even though your association is professionally trained and experts, we will ask they attend a 90 minute training session before the school year and complete a background check if needed (Charleys Kids covers the cost).

This year we will be adding the Dibels assessment for data collection and having retired teachers would be a great benefit to students, schools, and the program. As we push to expand the program we also need to push for more volunteers.
