Intern Supervisor Needed
Hello! I am a program manager in English Education at OSU, and I work each year with our intern teachers. This year, we are in need of an experienced educator to help with supervision. The job of a supervisor is to observe interns as they work in their placement classrooms, support and facilitate the relationships with the Mentor Teachers, and lead regular check-ins (generally every other week or so) with their interns. These can be held on campus; but we’ve also had supervisors hold them off campus if they choose – in a coffee shop, library, or more convenient location. It’s a less “structured” job than teaching a regular class, which allows people to do other things and have some autonomy to fit the job to their schedules. I know this is short notice, given that we start back in just a few weeks, but I’m wondering if any of your retired members with ELA education experience would be interested in this work? We have a wonderful group of faculty and graduate students. If there is interest, I’d be more than happy to chat by email or phone to answer any questions as well (614-688-3407). Thank you so much for considering this. All the best,Jenell Igeleke Penn

A Special Message About CEA-R Activities
Hello, we are getting questions about signing up for activities in the new brochure with the covid-19 lurking in our lives. We have been asked if we should sign up for activities in the new brochure due to the uncertainties. Our thoughts are that no one knows the future. Will this virus disappear as quickly as it came or will it linger for a long time? We don’t think that answer lies with anyone at this point.
Suggestion: Go ahead and sign up for any of the activities that you would like to participate in. The committee will be monitoring the events as we go along. Just like Moonlight and Magnolias as well as Cyber Security you will be notified of any cancellations and your check will be shredded. The most you will be out is a paper check and 50¢ postage (less if you mail in more than one reservation at one time).
The one trip, “Sweet Tooth Tour”, will be cancelled. We had two delays in getting the new brochure to you and we won’t have enough time to meet the quota needed by the deadline. That is the only cancellation in the new brochure at the present time.
Best regards.

CEA Is Requesting Our Help!
“CEA is currently in negotiations for a new agreement and in support of those efforts, CEA will be picketing Columbus City Council on Monday, July 29th at 4 PM.
CEA is picketing Columbus City Council because by law both the City Council and the School Board must negotiate and approve the terms of large tax abatements, the decisions made by the Columbus City Council directly impacts investment in the schools Columbus Students Deserve, and by the District’s own numbers, Columbus City schools have lost $148 million to abatements alone between 2000 and 2016!”
